ABOUT WEST AUCKLAND

West Auckland is a group of suburbs located to the West of Auckland Central, belonging to the greater Auckland Region. West Auckland boasts an abundance of recreational, shopping and natural features, all only a short drive from the CBD. Living in West Auckland provides everything from wineries, bush walks, and beaches to outlet shopping centres and sports stadiums. All right at your doorstep.

Recreation

The area is home to several cultural and recreational facilities, including the Corban Estate Arts Centre, Henderson Valley Studios, West Wave Aquatic Centre, The Trusts Stadium, the Netball Waitakere complex and Massey Leisure Centre. Both Opanuku and Oratia streams flow through Henderson and provide significant environmental, recreational and amenity benefits to the area.

The West Wave Aquatic Centre provides swimming, fitness, recreation, childcare and venue hire facilities. 43 centres are waiting for you. Your local pool is here for you – it’s affordable, well-maintained, and in your community. Get active the fun way with events, activities and education in your local leisure centre, including term programmes, school holiday programmes, sports leagues, outdoor education and more. We offer a number of childcare solutions to help you fit everything into your busy day. Our venue hire is affordable, flexible and ideal for a wide variety of events. 


From apple orchard to a jewel in Waitakere’s crown, the Trusts Arena has been the centre of the community since the 1950s. The Trusts Arena is a local hub for community sports but high profile sporting events. Available facilities include Arena Fitness, Arena Functions and Arena Boxing. 

Netball Waitakere 




Netball Waitakere is the netball centre for the West and Greater Auckland area. Situated in Te Pai Place, Henderson we are proud to be operating since mid-2010 from our wonderful new indoor, outdoor and venue facilities.

The Massey Leisure Centre and Library brings much needed community services to this fast-growing area of Waitakere City. It is another example of the Eco City philosophy put into practice; providing for social needs while also caring for our environment. This centre incorporates innovative environmental features and integrates visual arts throughout.


Shopping
Main retail areas are in Henderson and the Massey/Westgate shopping centre. Business activity is also concentrated along the Lincoln Road corridor. Te Atatu town centre is a vibrant neighbourhood centre.
